Welcome to the online platform of the Global Thematic Consultation on Energy. This is an open and inclusive space to discuss the role of energy in the post-2015 development agenda.

The global energy consultation is part of a larger global dialogue with stakeholders across all sectors of society. It seeks to build a shared vision for a set of priorities and global objectives on energy that should be integrated within the post-2015 development agenda and related processes.

The "High Level Dialogue on Energy in the Post-2015 Development Agenda" took place in Oslo, Norway on 9 April, 2013. Convened by the Governments of Mexico, Norway and Tanzania, the dialogue concluded the above series of key messages.

The summary of the global energy consultations captures both the web-based consultation, as well as face-to-face events in Africa (Tanzania), Asia (India and Cambodia), Latin America (Mexico), North America (USA), the Arab Region (gathered with the help of the Government of Saudi Arabia), Europe (Norway) and UN organizations (UN-Energy), involving civil society, businesses, governments, and international organizations.

The "High Level Dialogue on Energy in the Post-2015 Development Agenda" took place in Oslo, Norway on 9 April, 2013. Hosted by the Government of Norway and co-convened by the Governments of Mexico, Norway and Tanzania, the dialogue was the culmination of four months of global consultations on why and how energy should be addressed in the post-2015 development agenda.

Expected Output from the Consultation

Face-to-face consultations will compliment the online discussions and will include various stakeholders from civil society, youth, businesses and governments.  Such face-to-face consultations will be organized in several regiouns, including Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  This will culminate in a high-level meeting that will be held in Oslo, Norway.

Upon completion of the online and face-to-face consultations, the results will be summarised into a final report with key recommendations, which will be shared to inform on-going processes, including the Secretary-General's Post-2015 High Level Panel as well as the sustainable development goals discussions.  The final report will propose a set of recommendations and processes on how to continue to engage with key stakeholders towards 2015 at national, regional and global levels to help ensure the integration of energy into the post-2015 development agenda.

UN-Energy and the Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All initiative will coordinate the consultation on energy, building on their work to-date.  The consultation process on energy is organized in partnership with the governments of Norway, Tanzania and Mexico, and will be co-led by UNIDO, UNDESA, and the World Bank, with support from UNDP.  Together these entities form a Steering Committee that guides the entire energy thematic consultation process.  Resource organisations may be invited on an as needed basis.
